Ministry to Military

Calvary is a church made up of families, not the least of which are our military families. Being central to Ft. Belvoir and Quantico and just south of the Pentagon, we encompass all services.  Reaching out to show the love of Christ to our military and their families is important to us.  We aim to be a family for those whom are often far from family.

One way we try to provide Ministry to Military is by providing information and support that would be of interest to them.   If you serve or are married to a military member, you may find the following sites helpful.

 Special Programs

 Operation Kid Comfort

Thousands of children are waiting for their moms and dads to return from active duty deployments.  To help military kids cope while a parent is deployed, ASYMCA started Operation Kid Comfort.  Created at Fort Bragg/Pope Air Force Base in NC in 2003, the program has volunteers collect photos of the deployed parent from his or her family and transfer them onto quilts or pillows that they hand-make themselves.  Having a cozy quilt or pillow freaturing pictures of Mom or Dad to snuggle with brings a smile to the kids' faces and makes the time apart a little bit easier.

To volunteer to make a quilt or learn about recieving one for your child, click here for the ASYMCA site.

 Operation Oasis

Sandy Cove Ministries has created Operation Oasis as a way to say thank you for the sacrifices made by our military. Our desire is that Sandy Cove would be an "oasis" for moms and dads and boys and girls – a place to rest and reconnect with one another after deployment.

Any service man or woman, including those in the Reserve and National Guard, returning home from deployment in support of OIF or OEF can come to Sandy Cove with their immediate family for FREE! This includes comfortable accommodations in the Chesapeake Lodge or Pioneer Campground cabins, all meals, recreation and program if scheduled. 5-nights for a family of four would normally cost up to $2100, but through generous donations, Sandy Cove is able to offer this as a FREE gift to military families to help you bond together and relax in a Christian atmosphere.

If your family would benefit from such a retreat experience, please e-mail operationoasis@sandycove.org or call: 800-234-2683.

Outside Ministries

We seek to help every troop, every leader, and every family member hear and receive the life saving message about Jesus. Identifying with Paul’s words in the book of Romans, our “heart’s desire and earnest prayer to God is that they (military men, women, and families) might be saved.” Only in this way will they be truly ready, spiritually ready, to face the challenges which will certainly come their way.

Our Military Ministry Resource Center provides spiritual resources that troops and families can draw upon during tough times.

Officers' Christian Fellowship desires to serve those who serve their country. We have a number of resources to help military members and their families grow together in their relationship with God and others.

OCF serves...

  • active duty officers
  • enlisted personnel
  • guard and reserve members
  • academy and ROTC cadets/midshipmen
  • international military personnel
  • civilian employees of the military
  • retirees
  • widows
  • and... their families

Christian Military Fellowship (CMF) is an association of believers who are committed to encouraging Men and Women in the United States Armed Forces, and their families, to love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.  We are an indigenous ministry serving all elements of that society including all military services, all ranks, family members, civilian employees, all Christian denominations and traditions. Within the military society, our members, staff and constituents work to introduce people to Jesus Christ and help Christians to grow in faith.

Christian Military Wives  (a ministry of CMF) is organized and operated exclusively for the charitable, religious and educational purposes of providing spiritual, emotional, social and financial support to military families, including organizing and leading Christian-based support groups; providing educational materials and classes to military personnel and their families on topics such as coping with deployment and reintegrating into society after returning from combat; educating the general public on the emotional, financial and physical challenges faced by American armed forces personnel and their families; organizing and conducting Christian-based retreats treats/camps for military families.

Focus On the Family is a global Christian ministry dedicated to helping families thrive. We provide help and resources for couples to build healthy marriages that reflect God’s design, and for parents to raise their children according to morals and values grounded in biblical principles.

For resources on nurturing your relationships through the myriad of situations that the military thrusts upon you, click on the link above.

We’re here to come alongside families with relevance and grace at each stage of their journey. We support families as they seek to teach their children about God and His beautiful design for the family, protect themselves from the harmful influences of culture and equip themselves to make a greater difference in the lives of those around them.

No matter who you are, what you’re going through or what challenges your family may be facing, we’re here to help. With practical resources - like our 1-800 Family Help line, counseling and websites – we’re committed to providing trustworthy, biblical guidance and support.

The Protestant Women of the Chapel International is a resource network that unites, trains and encourages women in the military chapel community in their spiritual growth.

PWOC is God empowered, Christ centered and Spirit led; exists as an extension of the chapel; encourages women to grow spiritually within the body of Christ through prayer, the study of God's Word, worship and service; is sponsored by the Army Chief of Chaplains and is recognized by the leadership of the Air Force, Navy, Marine and Coast Guard Chaplaincy.

PWOC is an integral part of the installation’s religious support mission, which directly assists the commander in caring for his/her Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and their families. PWOC is a part of the commander’s religious program and it organizationally exists under the supervision of the installation chaplain. PWOC's part of the religious program is to minister to the unique needs of the military woman and female military spouse. PWOC equips women to flourish in the unique challenges of the military lifestyle through its emphasis on nurturing and mentoring. This is accomplished by seasoned military spouses and mature military women.

PWOC provides the environment to nurture a spiritually enriching community that enhances personal enrichment and family readiness. During times of deployment, the Soldier, Airman, Sailor or Marine can be assured that PWOC will be a close, caring group who will be there to support his spouse and provide a helping hand when needed.

PWOC is grounded in spiritual principles, and is a unique force multiplier for the commander. This is accomplished by training women in personal and family skills, by being a compassionate safety net to hurting women, and by supporting the ideals that military personnel are called to protect and defend.

Wives of Faith is a faith-based military wives support organization that began when an active Army wife and a Navy Reservist wife who were both going through deployments met for lunch in Nashville, TN one day. They had so much fun connecting with each other and discovering shared concerns and challenges, that they thought maybe other military wives would also like meeting.

That’s when Wives of Faith was born and in December of 2006, the first get-together – an ornament exchange – was held. The women who came to that event were from different branches (Army, Air Force, Navy) and different types of service (active, National Guard and Reserve) but they all discovered some wonderful similarities, important when you often feel like you’re the “only one” who feels a certain way.

With more and more service members deploying and families living away from their military installation, spouses are seeking friendships with other women who may better understand their circumstances than civilian friends and family are sometimes able to.

Our wives  have connected through small groups, events, conferences and online through Facebook and our blog. Though many women connect with us during a deployment, there are still others who stay involved because they wish to pass on support they received when they were going through the same experience.

Campus Crusade Military Ministry, it is a privilege and responsibility to assist chaplains and commanders with caring for the spiritual well-being of troops and their families. We do this in many ways, but all focus on the gospel because “faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes by the Word of God.”
