About Us   Our Purpose Our purpose is to glorify God by introducing people to Jesus Christ, growing together in harmony as members of his family, and equipping one another to serve Him. Woodbridge and Prince William County are growing rapidly and, as a church, we must reach out to the people of our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.   Our Philosophy Our philosophy of ministry is rooted in the belief that every Christian is called by God to serve Him and is gifted by God to do so. Spiritual growth is a vital part of a person's preparation for effective service. Spiritual growth comes over time through studying God's word and applying it by faith to life's varied challenges. The key ways a local church can aid its members in spiritual growth is by providing vibrant Bible teaching, supportive relationships, and ministry opportunities. Central to our philosophy of ministry is the "team concept." This is reflected in Jesus' choosing the Apostles and sending them out in pairs and in Paul's missionary work and his instruction regarding plurality of elders for each church. So we serve the Lord in teams who pray, plan, and work together harmoniously. We learn to appreciate each team member's particular gifts and abilities. Our worship services are guided by a commitment to glorify God in all we do. As reflects our diverse congregation, we pursue a variety of musical and artistic styles. We encourage able singers, musicians and artists to use their gifts, talents, abilities and instruments in the assembly to lead the congregation in worship to the glory of God.   Our History Founded in 1953 as an independent Baptist church, Calvary has served the Woodbridge, Dale City, and Dumfries communities for nearly 50 years. Calvary has always had a commitment to the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ and solid Bible teaching from the pulpit and in the classrooms. Due to the high concentration of military and government personnel in our area, people are constantly moving in and being transferred out. Calvary has eagerly sought to welcome new people and get them involved in the life of the church. Calvary has been very intentional in its commitment to diversity; reaching out to all peoples regardless of race or national origin.   The church built its original building in 1955. This building was later enlarged to accommodate the growing congregation.   In 1991 work was completed on a second larger building on the same site. This "Family Life Center" can accommodate 500 in worship and includes classrooms, gymnasium, nurseries, library, and offices.   Our Future Calvary's future is bright as a cohesive congregation with a spirit of harmony and service. The leadership team (consisting of elders, deacons, and many laypersons) enjoys a good spirit and mutual respect and has led the church in growth, expanded facilities and outreach.
